General Information
SNACK TIME
Children at Spateston Pre-five Centre are offered a drink and a snack each day.  They will usually be encouraged to choose from a selection of fresh fruit.  On occasions other healthy choices may be offered e.g. cheese and biscuits, sandwiches, toast, fruit toast etc.  As part of our curriculum we will also offer other foods to the children. This could be as part of our celebrations for Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving, St Andrews day celebrations etc.  Also, as part of the curriculum, the children are encouraged to express their opinion on what they enjoy eating for snack, using a voting system on our Smartboard.

The children are also encouraged to drink water or milk with their snack.

When your child is enrolled you will be asked about food allergies or any special dietary requirements your child has and we will ensure that your child’s dietary needs are always met.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES

We really appreciate the weekly £2.50 donation made by parents. This allows us to buy baking ingredients, go on small outings and celebrate special events and activities. The weekly £2.50 donation has recently allowed the centre to purchase two tree houses which provide many valuable opportunities to support children's learning. Our parents committee encourages all parents to contribute the £2.50 donation as it makes such a positive contribution to the centre.
CLOTHING
The centre does not have a uniform, but should you wish, you can buy centre sweatshirts and polo shirts from the office.
Children have the best fun when they are doing messy work.  We will always try to make sure they wear aprons but accidents happen so please dress your child in suitable clothes. Please put your child’s name on all clothes which will be taken off in the centre - coats, shoes, wellington boots etc.

SETTLING IN PERIOD
As each child is an individual, the length of time to settle each one will vary. The first day is always a short day, lasting approximately 1 hour. This will gradually build up to a full session. Parents are welcome to stay in either the playroom or the Parent's Room, where tea and coffee are available. Please remember that you are always welcome to stay in the nursery for as long as you wish.
PARENTAL PARTNERSHIP
We will work closely with parents and carers throughout your child's time at the nursery. We will keep you informed of important news, dates and activities through our newsletter and the website.

There will be an opportunity to formally discuss your child’s progress twice a year.

We have a Parent's Fundraising Group which needs new members. They will be involved in various fundraising activities to gather funds for the development of the nursery. Various projects have included a Red Box Night, and theme days.

We welcome parent helpers for various activities. Speak to your child's key worker to find out more.
ADMISSIONS POLICY
Renfrewshire Council provides a place for all 3-5 year old children. It has been agreed that there are some family and geographical circumstances, which will give children priority for admission. A leaflet detailing the Council's policy is available from the office.
Age range of children in the nursery.
At Spateston Pre Five Centre we have places for children aged 3 to 5 years.
Numbers of children in each daily session and patterns of attendance.
We have the capacity to accomodate eighty children who may attend either in the morning or afternoon. In special circumstances full time places may be offered.
Emergency contacts
Parents whose children are in the nursery are asked to provide the establishment with the names and addresses and telephone numbers of two contact persons, where possible, for use in case of an emergency.
Please keep the nursery informed of any changes of address or telephone numbers.
Arrival/collection of children. It it is expected that a responsible adult will bring your child to and from the nursery. In the interest of your child's safety you should make a point of telling your child's key worker if your child is to be collected by someone other than the person delivering the child. This avoids difficult situations when a child cannot be allowed to leave with an adult who is a stranger.
Clothes
Children have the best fun when they are doing messy work! We will always try to make sure that they wear aprons but accidents do happen so please dress your child in suitable clothes. Please also make sure that your child has suitable outdoor clothing in case outdoor play or a trip is planned. We encourage the children to change into soft shoes on entering the nursery. We find that slip-on shoes are the safest and they also encourage your child to be independent.

It is also worth noting that you can buy nursery sweatshirts and t-shirts for your children. Any information about this can be obtained from the office.
